<image:caption>Oil on 2 cradled panels 61 x 92 cm / 24 x 36 inch My language explores the thin line between figuration and abstraction. In this series I worked with professional dance groups. For me, watching the dancers interact, serves as a laboratory to examine that melting point between the two worlds; allowing my brush strokes to float and breathe in idiosyncratic ambiguity. My work is a personal journey to see the beautiful even in the struggle. Trying to bring beauty into this challenging life.I draw inspiration from the things and experiences that surround me, constantly searching; and using my brush on the canvas, to dive within the psychology and interaction between individuals, and the silence within.</image:caption>

I began by examining people’s absorption in the eating ritual and the physical comfort derived from it. Investigating the tension and pleasure of feasting in art. Throughout my paintings, I attempt to elevate my subject from the personal realm to a universal one. Bodies intertwine and gesticulate in frozen moments asking us to join in or intervene. I use this imagery to mirror our own everyday existence in all its complexities, trying to capture it with a visual beauty that fascinates me. They are self-portraits of Nava as lineal artifacts, indicating that our features are sacred living archives of the eternal connections, DNA, and histories that survive through us. Through these works, we follow Nava into a realm where she has learned not only to transcend the limits of separation from physical matter, but dissolve the boundary of time, suggesting that the border between ourselves and our ancestors who have passed is all but illusory”. <image:caption>Ink, acrylic & oil on canvas 66 x 38 inch The series explores the impermanence, a subject that is deeply rooted in the history of art and we all experience during our lifetime. The central theme in my paintings is the fragility of the human condition. Despite the severity of my subject, there is liveliness in choosing a specific seductive bright palette that aspires to embrace the moments of celebration in our life. This poetic content is especially evident in the birds’ paintings. Their quiet resonance and space depicted with no formal limits is defined only by the presence of the animal itself. I keep expanding this imagery, reflecting on our own mundane existence in all its complexities, in attempt to transform it into a very intense, almost seductive tangible experience. <image:caption>I investigate brokenness as an evolving, natural state-of being rather than parts striving to fix. It is a journey from separation back to connection, a search for a melting point, that dissolves the line between the self & other. I deconstruct the body and build it back together in a rich, allusive language. Emulating a memory of the body & its fragility. Trying to find the fine line that holds it together but still vibrates with the parts. I am using tattoos as a tribal symbol of belonging; an intentional breaking and permanently marking into the skin. A ceremonial passage & a visceral reminder; holding a personal message to oneself. Exploring the divine presence in an earthly form, manifested as part of the material world. <image:caption>The central theme in my work is the fragility of the human condition. In my work, I touch and examine our awareness to the vulnerability we all experience in our daily lives. Emulating a memory of the body and its fragility, I am building the skin in a rich, allusive language. In its physicality, it is a re-imagined object. The layering of our skin underlines our personal story that we cover and hide. The sensual, almost tender casing for these fitted forms representing parts of the body. Abstracted within the figure. These pieces attempt to cope with the fine lines between mortality and beauty. <image:caption>Wire mesh, plaster, wax, resin, epoxy, pigment, wire, hair extension, fur, rope 37 × 12 × 11 inch In the Cocoon series of paintings and sculptures, figures are caught in a liminal space between presence and absence. They are obscured within protective shells, vertical washes of paint, or the raw textures of hair and fur, materials that veil the body while holding it close. Identity here is neither fixed nor easily consumed. Each form lingers in a timeless threshold of being held, hidden, and in flux. The work reflects a suspended moment of protection and tension, where vulnerability and potential coexist just before emergence.</image:caption>

<image:caption>“Touching the Sacred” body of works maps a process of awakening through multiple dimensions of connection. Opens with a series of works that reveal an intimate observation of the relationship between my body and what I consider divine energy. I seek to illustrate the divine presence in earthly form, using visual metaphors of mountains and waterfalls, alluding to the theory of immanence, which suggests that the divine is manifested through the material world. The paintings progress into humane relationships. In these works, figures fuse or bleed into each other, creating new forms that are two, but one. They evoke images of connective tissue through intricate tessellations or tattoos that can be read as shared experiences, emotions, and transformations. My interest in nonduality and interdependency is especially apparent in this section, and these paintings speak to the physiological shifts and vulnerable releases inherent to allowing deep intimacy with another being.
